How to Build a Room in Your Garden - Home Tips

Need extra living space but don't want to move? Building a room in the garden is a clever and cost-effective solution. Creating a separate room in the garden gives you a great getaway for work, hobbies, or just some piece and quiet.

'A garden room adds appeal to a house, making it attractive to all types of buyer, and a real draw for families,' says James Redington from Foxtons.

What are my choices?

The simplest cabin or summer house is similar to a shed, with either shiplap walls and cedar roof shingles or a log-cabin construction. These are usually supplied in pre-fabricated panels and, if you're a skilled DIYer, you could put one up yourself. More advanced ones, with sliding glass doors or a deck, for example, will need to be built on site by a specialist. Once the concrete base or piles are in, installation can take from one day to two weeks.

Limitations and security

Avoid positioning the garden room near growing trees, and ensure there's access for maintenance. You'll also need to think about access for delivery, though panels could be carried through the house.

As for securing your garden room, it's best to fit locks on doors and choose toughened glass. Check that the locks comply with your home insurance requirements. It's worth considering external lights, a burglar alarm and Venetian blinds to prevent anyone seeing in.

Can I use it all year round

If you insulate well and fit double-glazed windows, you'll be fine for the colder months. An electrician can run a cable from your house to the room to power lights and heating. In some cases, downlighters, sockets and wiring may be pre-installed in the panel walls.

How to use your garden room

Plan your room to ensure it's fit for purpose.

Home office Companies such as Henley will kit out your office with fitted furniture.

Gym Equipment can be bulky, so you'll need a large room. It's also an investment, so ensure your security is up to scratch.

Games room

You'll need plenty of space to play table games - L247cm x W153cm for a table tennis table, for example.

Music room

Use a company that specialises in sound-proofing.

What permission do I need and how much will it cost?

If your building is away from the house, takes up less than 50% of the garden and is smaller than 15sq m, or in some cases 30sq m, you're unlikely to need planning permission or Building Regulations Approval. However, there are exceptions - such as if you intend to use the room for sleeping - so check online at planningportal.gov.uk, and consult your local council's planning department.

Prices start from 439 for a Buckingham summerhouse (H213cm x W198cm x D205cm) from B&Q to around 22,600 for a bespoke design from Inside Out.

Building Safety Week Promotes Fire Protection Codes

Building Safety Week in the United States is May 5 - 11, 2008, to promote the achievements and benefits of building and fire protection codes. I'll bet some readers right now are rolling their eyes at what appears to be another marketing ploy of creating a "recognized" day of the year (in this case an entire week) to get you to buy something. I understand the sensitivity, but let me share with you why I am jumping on the bandwagon to recognize and even promote Building Safety Week. (I promise there are no greeting cards or gifts required) Building Safety Week was first observed almost 30 years ago in 1980. Since that time, local governments, building departments and fire departments have dedicated this week to raise public awareness on best building safety practices and to recognize the important role that building and fire prevention codes have in standardizing building safety for everyone.

The theme of this year's program is, "Building Safety Where You Live, Work and Play." This theme is intended to send the obvious message that most people spend a majority of their time inside some type of structure so the topic of building safety deserves a moment of your time. For most people, when you enter a house or building you're not thinking about whether it is properly constructed and safe. This fact alone is a testament to the high level of trust we place in our building and fire prevention codes and the assumption we have that our public servants are properly updating and enforcing these codes.

The sponsor of Building Safety Week, the International Code Council (ICC), along with other code development associations like the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), create the building safety and fire prevention codes that address all aspects of construction. This includes items such as structural soundness of buildings, reliability of fire prevention and suppression systems, plumbing and mechanical systems, and energy efficiency and sustainability. To ensure buildings are safe requires the active participation of property owners, building safety and fire prevention officials, architects, builders, engineers, and others in the construction industry.

This year's Building Safety Week is especially meaningful to supporters of residential fire sprinkler use as the International Building Code (IBC) is at the center of attention with proposed code changes pending that would require fire sprinklers to be installed in all residential structures. The recent US Fire Administration's official endorsement of these residential fire sprinkler requirements has fueled the intensity of this debate.

In greater numbers than ever before, fire prevention departments across the United States are utilizing Building Safety Week to raise public recognition and support for the use of residential fire sprinklers. Although we have achieved a high standard for building quality in the United States, there are still some proven fire protection benefits commonplace in commercial buildings, that are still missing from that building we value most...our home.

Basic Information About Trash Can Liners

What makes a good trash can liner good? For over 15 years I've helped people who come in to our cleaning supply facility find the exact product that they're looking for. From repeated feedback and just generally spending the time to talk to out customers I have found that when people buy can liners they buy it because they have individual needs and they're looking for the perfect can liner for their application. There is a lot of information and terminology in the trash bag industry and so there should be because there are hundreds of different types of can liners. Trash can liners are packaged in different ways and be made of different materials. Trash can liners also come in many colors but the main colors in the cleaning industry are black, clear and tan. Usually other colors of trash can liners convey a specific use for that liner; a great example of this is that red trash can liners are usually used in health care facilities. Trash can liner size is probably the most important factor when purchasing a trash can liner. When you fit your trash can liner into your waste container the trash bag should fit tightly to the top of the waste container without stretching it and the bottom of the can liner should reach all the way to the bottom of the waste container. Trash can liners also come in may different types of packaging. Some of these types of packing include rolled trash can liners, rolled coreless can liners and loose flat pack. The last trait of a can liner you should be concerned about is type of plastic the can liner is made from. The two main types of grades of trash can liners is linear low density trash can liners and high density trash can liners.

When choosing a color for your trash can liner take a look at what you are going to use the trash can liner for. Black trash can liners are great for concealing garbage and are generally used for everyday trash. Clear trash can liners are usually required by law and ordinances in some cities for recycling products. Clear liners ensure that the contents of the bag is recyclable just by looking at the full bag. Most clear trash can liners are classed as a linear low density liner.

The size of the trash bag is very important. A trash can that is to small for your waste receptacle can tear when you are fitting it in. If the trash can liner does not reach all the way to the bottom of your receptacle it can break under the weight of the garbage in it. A liner that is to large can easily slip all the way into the waste receptacle and be lost in the garbage as it is filled up with trash. To be sure that your are purchasing a trash bag that is the right size for your waste receptacles you should check with the manufacturer specs of your waste container for exact dimensions.

The way a trash can liner is packaged is also a consideration to be taken when purchasing them. Flat pack can liners are packaged separately and then folded into a rectangular box. Flat pack liners are great when you are purchasing large volumes of trash can liners because they can be easily stacked. Roll trash bags are perfect for janitor carts or trash can liner wall dispensers. Some roll trash can liners are joined by a perforation on the roll and are torn from the roll gently when you get one. Coreless can liners are rolled into rolls without a core. These trash can liners are great if your trying to save space.

The two main types or classes of toilet paper are linear low density and high density. Linear low density liners stretch when you press against the plastic. This type of trash can liner is great for regular indoor garbage that is light weight and does not contain and sharp materials. Linear low density liners are for the most part is more water resistant and have a tighter seal at the bottom of the liner. High density liners are made from a thicker plastic that has much less stretching capacity than linear low density trash can liners. High density liners are great for large and heavy objects and larger waste containers.

Overall, when purchasing a trash can liner make sure it is made by a reputable company and don't be afraid to ask if the manufacturer has had any recent defective bags. From my past experience at least 1 in every one hundred cases of trash bags is usually defective.

Correct Internet Network Marketing Strategies Will Make Your Prospects List Grow Better and Faster

Before we begin let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a retired building contractor from New England who got sick of retirement and started a brand new internet business. I never knew much about computers so when I started my internet business it was quite a challenge, but I was able to master it. I Have become comfortable moving around the internet. Being a contractor for many years I became familiar with Marketing which includes advertising, selling and packaging.

Marketing begins by selling yourself and your workmates or your "team." People have a need to know you as a person and how they will benefit by doing business with you, so education is involved. What I did in my former business, was advertise in the news paper, I had access to co-op advertising as long a certain manufacturers products were included in the adds. I don't need to do that now. I don't need someone else to sponsor my advertising and I can still advertise my MLM businesses at little or no cost using the internet marketing strategies I have learned thanks to "Renegade University." Educating the consumer why and how you can do a better job than any of the thousands of your competitors is a must. They need to know you as a person and become comfortable with you. Sell yourself first.

Advertising needs to be done where people can see you at the same place at the same time consistently. That can be done with internet marketing. In my old business I advertised in the local newspapers weekly TV guide. It was in the home for an entire week, and on a weekly basis I changed the add with new content educating people further about home improvement or a building project they could do themselves. Sometimes I spoke about myself and my sons who worked with me, letting people know how we worked together as a team and what we could do for our clients. It worked then and it works even better now with internet marketing. Attraction internet marketing works with any kind of business you can dream up. If you are already in an MLM network marketing business start using the new network marketing strategies and watch your business fly.

Sometimes, marketers use places like Craig's list to advertise their business and that's all right, but its not in the same place long enough to do much good. Put an add on Craig's list in any of the cities that are listed. Do it in the morning and the next morning go try to find it, Then you will see what I mean. That emphasizes the need to be in the same place 24/7, 365 days per year with updated content on a regular basis.

There are two companies that have pioneered the new network marketing strategies. Both are reputable and both have a good track record of teaching their system. One is Mike Dillard who introduced "The Magnetic Marketing System" nearly two years ago. The other came along shortly there after and that was Ann Sieg, With her e-book "The Renegade Network Marketer"and her "Renegade System." Along with Mike Klingler and "The Renegade University" this team is able to take a total internet Dummy like me and make me into a real internet marketer. They take you step by step click by click through everything you need to know, and at you own pace.

If you already have Your own MLM business you can grow your prospects list by using these new network marketing strategies. Your bottom line will improve a hundred fold by using the many monetizing methods that are available to you, it's called affiliate marketing. There are hundreds of affiliate programs available to you. If you employ the network marketing strategies the way they are taught by either of the companies mentioned above, in the right ways, your prospects list will grow to a point where you won't be able to handle it alone you will be forced to share some of it with your downline. And that's not a bad problem to have is it? Just think, when you have your downline trained and their list grows to the same point yours has. Then what are you going to do. You might have to sell some leads to those deeper in your downline. Isn't that just awful?

When marketing is done the correct way, prospects are not only providing personal information on your capture pages, They will be calling you. Calling because they have come to know your personality through the content you have written on your several web sites or through the social media. Places like You Tube, Face Book, My Space, Digg or E-zine articles like this one. They will become so comfortable with you they will want to talk to you personally. They begin to recognise you as a real professional, someone they can trust.

Get your business on the right track. Learn the new attraction network marketing strategy. If a Dummy like me can do it, you can too.

Have a great marketing day.

Grant Logan: is an associate of Ann Sieg, and is willing and able to help guide you through the learning processes that will make you fully competent and completely equipped to be a real professional network marketer. If you already have a business that is faltering we can help you breath life into it. If you want to start a home based business, we can teach you everything you need to know to be successful. Building Contractors - Master Builders of Homes, Buildings and Roads

Building contractors or general contractors are construction professionals that contract other individuals or companies for the construction or renovation of a house, building, road or any other structure. They provide estimates to clients by studying the blueprints of the structure. Subsequently, once a contract is signed, building contractors will then be responsible for the means and methods to be used in the construction of the house, building or road. They have to make sure that all the details of the signed contract will be met.

Building contractors, especially established ones, already have their own equipment, manpower and even construction materials to supply their clients. However, for those who are still starting out, the only way to execute the contract agreement is to contract other contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. Building contractors often work 24/7 throughout the duration of the project to be able to immediately solve problems that may occur from accidents or those caused by the weather. Other problems that may occur are lack of materials, malfunctioning equipment and lack of manpower.

Building contractors also accept projects for different government agencies and they are often referred to as the prime contractors. They often follow the same procedures similar to contracts they accept for private clients. In general, building contractors specialize in one type and size of construction project. Commercial contractors, however, sometimes accept residential projects and vice versa but most rarely take on large scale public works projects such as building industrial sites, bridges and sewage systems to name a few.

Building contractors often start out as construction workers mastering in carpentry, insulation, landscaping, plumbing and other similar jobs. After gaining the necessary skills, they will then work as apprentices or assistants for other contractors or developers. Before becoming a contractor themselves, they should have at least 5 years of experience in the contracting field and have certifications in mastering a construction skill. They are also required to get a degree in construction science, construction management or civil engineering. Many states require contractors to be licensed before they can work and get clients from the area. Building contractors must complete several requirements before they can be granted their licenses.

Other ways of getting a license aside from taking a four year course degree is to attend training programs plus at least two years of college programs in construction science or construction technology. The American Institute of Constructors and the Construction Management Association of America often offer voluntary certification programs for aspiring contractors. Once you have completed the requirements and passed the written examinations, you will be granted your certification.

Working as a building contractor can be very demanding and stressful but can also be very fulfilling. With an average $69,870 annual income and with the employment rate for contractors and other construction personnel and workers increasing until 2014 (according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics), there will surely be a lot of opportunities for building contractors for the next few years.

Electric Fireplace Stoves

You can transform any room with the stylish flexibility of electric fireplace stoves. They are wonderful for enhancing the ambiance of the room while taking up any space you feel the need to fill and not waste, as well as not taking up any floor space at all depending upon the model that you choose.

Electric fireplaces are essentially space heaters with a hot new twist. They are attractively manufactured and incredibly eye appealing. However, you should keep in mind that since they are enhanced space heaters that they will not produce as much heat as a wood or gas fed fireplace.

You must use your ceiling fans to help distribute the heat to other areas and never expect your electric fireplace to actually heat a bigger area than is intended by its use. Also remember that you do not want to place your fireplace in the same area as your thermostat as the heat from the unit will inhibit the normal start up of your furnace or central heating unit.

Depending upon your personal sense of home or office design you will find there are some delightful features and options available to you when you choose electric fireplace stoves. There are various styles, designs, sizes and finishes of fireplace units to compliment any type of room.

Such options and features may include a 2 speed blowers and distributing fans for heating as well as a programmable thermostat and temperature readers. The visual and audio effects are controlled as well as the adjustable 3D hologram flame feature, the dimmer and down lights. Using these you can create any desirable atmosphere from simply casual to mystic and romantic. You may choose from various styles such as a curio cabinet, television stand or a home entertainment center as a focal point in any area.

Creating an atmosphere that is heartwarming comfortable and visually appealing in every way while doing your part to make the planet a better place to live is an incredibly amazing feeling. You will be pleased with the effects you can achieve while using your new electric fireplace stoves.
